A Moment in May - A Walk through Richmond

May 3 - I had an exam in the morning. It went ok. I had planned on taking the bus to the other campus but as I looked into my backpack, I did not have my ID with me. Meaning, I could not ride the bus. The other campus wasn't very far so I decided to take a walk. It was a nice day and I figured I could try to be healthy and do some moderate walking. I had a lot of time to spend anyway.

Starting point: MCV School of Nursing Building. The courtyard is quite pretty, don't you think?

Walking down the street and past Broad Street to some road parallel to it.

Took the scenic shortcut through the Capitol Square.

Now walking down Franklin Street. I kept seeing these signs posted everywhere.

Some interesting buildings on the way. Saw the Campus Connector bus pass me like a million times.

Jefferson Hotel for fancy pants people. Getting close!

Passing the VCU Business Building, also called Snead. Getting even closer!

I have arrived at my destination: Monroe Park Campus.

Arrived in time to do a DIY facial with some friends. Facial solution made from all natural products: yogurt, oatmeal, and honey. It was part of the stress-free activity of the day. Some girl even came by and gave out some free hair dye. We got offered some delicious snacks as well. I chomped down on some delicious strawberries. All in all, it was pretty nice day.

Target Colorblock Cardigan in White & Rue 21 Floral Blouse

I had bought these items on two separate occasions but I decided to just put them together in one post. The Rue 21 blouse, they claim to be originally $34 but I had bought it in the store for $6. It was in the sale rack and I really had to dig through to find something I liked. The blouse is nice and loose but I will have to wear a cami underneath because it is a bit sheer.

The Target cardigan was originally $19.99 but was on sale for $9.98. I can't help buying things that are under $10 because I think clothes under $10 is such a steal. It is an off white with the borders being a grayish brown. The odd thing about this cardigan is that the back is longer than the front, a little quirk of the design. It is very thin and light so perfect for summer. I was really looking for a light colored cardigan that I was really made for spring/summer weather. My other cardigans were too thick. The cardigan buttons are quite low so you can show off the design of your top. It's a nice basic neutral that I think will go well with anything.

Hair Bun Donut & Hair Bun Extension

Everyone has been putting their hair up into these cute buns. It really makes the look more formal and clean, as well as keeping the hair out of your face and great for keeping cool when the hot weather comes. I, unfortunately, don't have hair long enough to make into those cute buns, nor do I really want to grow my hair out that long to begin with. My hair is very wavy and tangled so having it long would just be a nightmare. Like all other problems, I just decided to buy the look. I bought two things to give me a super big and nice bun.

Hair Bun Donut
seller: dpcloth
price: $1.49 CAD + $1.29 CAD Shipping = $2.80 USD
color: black
size: L

Very minimal instructions. This tag is really as close as you can get to instructions. I guess it's left up to you to figure it out. That's really the only downside I see to this package. I guess you can look it up on youtube how to properly use it.

So this bun is huge! As you can see, I can barely grasp it. It seems very durable and made of a hard plastic so it can't be near anything hot (ex. irons, etc). I was really happy with how big it was. I was so excited to use it.

Hair Bun Extension
seller: yinyinnewbeauty
price: $1.99 CAD + $1.00 CAD (shipping) = $3.01 USD
color: Black (straight)

It was a small package. It was surrounded by this cardboard type paper so it would keep its circular shape. When taken out of the package, the bun was enclosed in a hair net so the hair doesn't go all crazy during delivery.

The hair is quite soft. It is synthetic but I think it is pretty good quality for synthetic. It isn't overly shiny. It has brown tones in it so I would say the color is more brown/black or natural black (color #1B) and not like my hair which is jet black (color #01). I was a little disappointed in that but I did sort of expect it because most synthetic hair is made to be natural black rather than jet black. The color difference is slight, but noticeable in harsh sunlight, flash, bright lights, and close up.

Put them both together...
The first problem I encountered was that the hair extension was too small for the bun donut (yes, that donut is that big). I couldn't quite attach it to my hair so I attached the little claws into the bun instead. The structure of the bun helps keep the claws in place so it doesn't move. The hair on the hair extension is long enough though that it can completely cover the donut so at least no parts of the donut is showing. The final result bun is so huge and I absolutely love it.

See, you don't need long hair to make those cute little sock buns. You can just buy it on ebay!

Bath & Body Works Hand Soaps

I love things that smell good and sweet so it's no surprise that I love things from Bath & Body Works. They always have some sort of deals for their hand soaps where you can get them in bulk and you can mix and match scents. I do like all the kinds of soaps, but I'm biased towards the antibacterial foam kind. I feel like people don't use as much when it's foam compared to when it is just the gel soap. That's just my opinion and observations.

Roxy Agave Duffle in Black

This was a bag I got a long time ago that was a gift from an aunt. I don't buy any Roxy items and I wouldn't even know where to get them. Finally, I used it this past weekend when I went home and this bag is pretty huge! It fit all the clothes for me and my friend that went with me. Now it's my new favorite duffle for travel. Thanks auntie <3

School Supplies Impulse Buy

I don't know what it is about school supplies but I just like to have them. I don't know why that is. I mean, I'm still in school but I don't really use school supplies anymore. Everything is done online that needing a sheet of notebook paper is such a rarity. I guess old habits die hard?

The green folder, I got from Kroger. I'm using it to keep some of my drawings because recently I got back into drawing again. The impulse comes and goes but it's here now so I needed somewhere to store all these papers of drawings and stuff. It was the only green folder left. Lucky me because green is my favorite color. This only cost 99 cents.

This clipboard was an impulse buy but I had been thinking of getting one anyway, just not during that shopping trip. I wanted to get one because it would be useful during clinical and I have a nice solid surface to write on. This one was just had such a cute design and it was only $1! So like many deals, I can't help but buy.

This folder... I don't know why I bought this folder. Well, I bought it because it was cute and green with a nice design but I honestly have no idea what I would use it for. I mean, I'm sure I'll use it eventually but for now, I have no use for it. I just wanted to buy it and it was only $1 at Target so I bought it. Terrible reason, I know. Many of my buys don't have a good reason.

Then I went to Michael's intending to buy something but deciding not to buy it and then buying something else from their $1 sale rack. So the notepads and notebooks were all $1 and they have such cute designs! I couldn't help myself.

Mossimo Gray Blouse with Pink Designs and brown belt

I went to Target over the weekend intending to buy only one thing but as always, ended up buying a whole lot of other things with it. I know I shouldn't really be spending money on things I don't need but I can't help looking at the sale section of the clothes department. I always try to look for a good deal and when I find one, I just can't pass it up.

I found this cute blouse in the sale section. I couldn't exactly see the price since it was cut off but it was six dollars and eighty something cents, which is good enough for me. Went up to the register and it rang up as only $6.88! Pretty good price for a blouse if you ask me. I don't care what anyone says about Target. I love that store.

ELF makeup brushes

When I had bought my SOHO vanity organizer and finally organized all my brushes, I noticed I still had a little bit more space still for more brushes. So I went to Target and tried to fill a bit of that space with even more brushes. I didn't expect to be using brushes so much before but now that I actually put on makeup, I needed more.

I decided to get three brushes. From top to bottom is the eye shadow brush, defining eye brush, and blending eye brush. Each brush was only $1, making it just $3 in total. I'm a poor college student so cheap brushes are really all I can afford right now. I like the ELF brand and I feel that they give you quite a good product for the price that they sell it at.

The brushes aren't as soft as my Hello Kitty brushes that I got from Sephora, but they aren't super coarse that I can't use them. They are soft enough to me. I quite like my ELF brushes and for the price, they are so wonderfully affordable. And they do the work I need them to just fine.

Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme

This has become my new favorite lotion/cream to hydrate my skin. Lately, I have been having some super dry skin and I have been putting lotion on every day but I just wasn't getting the results that I wanted. I had been using Suave lotion and this scented lotion from ULTA and they are ok, but the spot behind my neck was just really dry and I have self diagnosed that spot as eczema. I don't know if it's a correct diagnosis but I'll go with it. I was reading a chapter in my book when I found this little tidbit of information:

So lotions aren't as hydrating as you would think. So I went to my local Target to go find some of the brands that were mentioned. I know a lot of people use Cetaphil for little kids and adults like to use Aveeno but they were a little pricey to me. I was looking specifically for ones that were in a tub and not something in a bottle because I think the book mentioned that the ones in the tub work much better. I finally settled on Eucerin since the products were much cheaper than the others.

This Eucering Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme was the cheapest in a tub I could find, being only $9.99. The product claimed to be recommended by dermatologists and that this was the most hydrating and rich product of their line. I can see why it was on a tub instead of a bottle, because the product was so thick that there was no way it could go through a tube.

It's a white cream and since it is so thick, it's hard to spread it out thinly on your skin. When you have super dry skin, that's not really a problem. It does hydrate my skin so well and I really love it. It's my new favorite thing.
